Since alcohol is a neurotoxin and a teratogen, there is no safe amount, type of alcohol, or safe moment for drinking during the pregnancy. Therefore, this is why no alcohol consumption is recommended during pregnancy. If you are using alcohol, use reliable birth control to prevent an alcohol-exposed pregnancy. If you are trying to get pregnant or think you might be pregnant, stop using alcohol immediately (Canadian Centre on Substance Use and Addiction, 2018).

If you are having trouble stopping alcohol use in pregnancy, try to decrease your alcohol use. Reach out to addiction rehabilitation services or someone that can help you find the assistance that you need.
